[Radio] Sexism in medicine

female surgeon 2In the news recently there has been a lot of talk about gender inequality, but one area in particular which has received some extra attention is that of sexual harassment in medicine. Vascular surgeon Dr Gabrielle McMullin sparked off furious debate about the state of the medical community a few weeks ago by claiming that the measures in place for redress were so compromised that a junior trainee would be better off “complying with requests” rather than trying to challenge or refuse any advances.

I spoke with Dr Elizabeth Sturgiss, a lecturer in General Practice at ANU to get a better idea of the situation and what needs to be done.
